I study Social Science in the field of Business Management in College Ahuntsic. This program includes courses such as marketing, economics and business law. My glossary contains terms that can be useful to anyone who studies in those fields.

- noun
- A financial gain, especially the difference between the amount earned and the amount spent in buying, operating, or producing something.
- Example: The company made a profit this year

- The action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising.
- Example: Our advanced technology is used for online direct marketing and helps marketers achieve a better understanding of their customers and prospects online behavior.

- noun
- A sum of money paid regularly (typically quarterly) by a company to its shareholders out of its profits (or reserves).
- Example: From time to time surplus cash has been returned to shareholders in the form of special dividend payments.

- noun
- The loss of potential gain from other alternatives when one alternative is chosen.
- Example: When the government spends $15 billion on interest for the national debt, the opportunity cost is the programs the money might have been spent on, like education or healthcare.

- A period of temporary economic decline during which trade and industrial activity are reduced, generally identified by a fall in GDP in two successive quarters. "the country is in the depths of a recession".
- Example: When the economy entered recession, the workhouse conditions had to be worsened more.

- Something, typically money, that is owed or due.
- Example: The whole property of the debtor might be pledged as security for the payment of the debt, without any of it coming into the enjoyment of the creditor.

- The value of the shares issued by a company.
- Example: He owns 62% of the group's equity.

- noun
- The state of being responsible for something, especially by law.
- Example: This means that it provides coverage for both property damage and liability coverage which includes legal responsibility for injuries and property damage incurred by other people.

- noun
- A binding tie which requires individuals involved to do something or pay for something under legal terms according to the law.
- Example: Eric has an obligation to pay for his speeding ticket within 60 days under the state law in North Carolina.

- noun
- A written or spoken agreement, especially one concerning employment, sales, or tenancy, that is intended to be enforceable by law.
- Example: Both parties must sign employment contracts.

- noun
- A practice or arrangement by which a company or government agency provides a guarantee of compensation for specified loss, damage, illness, or death in return for payment of a premium.
- Example: Well, if the insurance doesn't pay, I'll fix it.

- A written guarantee, issued to the purchaser of an article by its manufacturer, promising to repair or replace it if necessary within a specified period of time.
- Example: The car comes with a three-year warranty.

- A person or organization that provides something needed such as a product or service.
- Example: He has some cosy arrangement/deal with his supplier, which means he's able to sell his goods more cheaply.

- Process of delivering a new product or improving an existing one.
- Example: The company is spending another $ 100 million on product development.

- A system of money in general use in a particular country.
- Example: Few countries have suffered more from a depreciated currency than Argentina.

- Property owned by a person or company, regarded as having value and available to meet debts, commitments, or legacies.
- Example: Growth in net assets.

- The management of revenues; the conduct or transaction of money matters.
- Example: The banking institutions are supervised by an inspector of finance, who reports annually to the General Assembly.

- A person or business that sells goods to the public in relatively small quantities for use or consumption rather than for resale.
- Example: Work dynamically, openly and enthusiastically with retailers at local and national levels to develop measurable, sustainable improvements in profitability.
