My career as a financial advisor.

My career after CEGEP.

When I graduated from my program, which was Social Science in the field of Business Management, I immediately looked for a job in finance on popular platforms. I found a position as a financial advisor in a highly reputed bank in downtown, and got an interview. Right after, the Human Resources contacted me to tell me that I received the job. Of course, before I started, their department had to check my background to make sure I do not have any criminal record. I was very excited to begin the journey. At work, which was in an office, I had to do on the job training. My trainer was another employee who only had a few years of experience. This was the drawback from my OJT experience. I felt very confused at times, because the way he described everything to me made it seem as if he did not know what he was talking about. I remember one time, he explained an insurance contract to a client of mine, and he rushed so badly that the client made a comment about leaving us for another bank. Another time, he made the mistake of taking out a loan for 500000 dollars instead of 5000 dollars. In short, this caused bias.

Life in the office.

Working in the office had its ups and downs. The environment was great, but toxic. Being in a field where money flows, there were some flaws in the system that certain people could take advantage of. At my job, there was this person who always isolated from the rest of the team. My colleagues and I had a strange feeling about her. She would not talk much, and was very sneaky. One time, our feeling got confirmed. I came in the office after a shift, and I saw this person using the investment director's computer. She was committing fraud and was stealing the company’s assets. She even played with the company's equity which is extremely serious. After that, she threatened me because I saw her, and told me she would give me a bribe so that I would not say anything. I refused and told the boss about what I have witnessed and the complete situation.

Volunteering abroad.

A few months after the incident that happened in the office and which put me in a vulnerable position, I decided to change completely my environment by volunteering abroad. As a volunteer, I contributed to fundraising and participated in associations with other volunteers. We shared our skills and expertise in our field of specialty to help people in under developed countries with their social businesses. This included marketing strategies, brand management, microfinance and many more. At first, I was skeptical because I have never volunteered but the idea of traveling made it more interesting. I had and still have the purpose to help others in need and this type of experience is invaluable. Upon my return, I even got a premium wage!
